Silverdale Confederate Cemetery
7710 Lee Highway, Chattanooga

Directions: I-75 Exit 7B. Travel Bonny Oaks Drive W for 0.4 miles then turn right onto Lee Highway W. Cemetery is on the right.

Although buffeted by recent development, this stone walled cemetery is one of the region’s most compelling yet little recognized Civil War sites. Here lie the remains of about 155 Confederates from the command of Gen. Braxton Bragg.  Most are unknown soldiers who died in military hospitals near here in 1862. The Nathan B. Forrest Chapter, United Confederate Veterans, restored the cemetery in 1926-27.  The cemetery entrance gate on the Lee Highway dates to the 1930s.
