Directions: From Downtown Chattanooga take Exit 178 Downtown/Hwy 27-N. Travel 2.2 miles to Exit 1C, 4th Street. Travel 0.4 miles and turn right onto Market Street. Proceed 0.2 miles and turn left on 6th Street. Travel 0.2 miles and turn left onto Lookout.

This historic African American church dates to 1867, when local residents acquired a heavily damaged building that had been used as a military prison by both Confederate and Federal armies. African Americans repaired the church and held services there until they constructed a new brick church around 1886. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is considered to be the oldest Methodist Episcopal church in East Tennessee.
