Blue Springs Fortifications
Blue Springs Community Park,
4832 Blue Springs Road, Cleveland

Directions: I-75 Exit 20. Take a right onto Hwy 64 toward Cleveland. Travel 4 miles and take the Blue Springs Road exit. Turn right and travel 3.2 miles to destination.

Railroad tracks, a historic springs, and high mountain ridges mark a landscape once occupied by thousands of troops in 1863 and 1864. Though the fortifications listed in the National Register are private property, one can access the county recreation park next to Blue Springs Elementary School. Once there, picture the countryside at a time when few trees remained, and the ridges and most of the bottomland around the tracks were covered with tents of federal soldiers.
