In the county seat of Dunlap, thousands of Confederate troops under the command of Gen. Braxton Bragg traveled along the narrow two-lane roads during his march toward invasion of Kentucky in 1862. Confederate commanders established a temporary headquarters at Dunlap during their march north. The museum at the Coke Ovens Park contains exhibits and artifacts from the county’s Civil War past, including an exhibit on Wheeler’s Raid of 1863.
