US Highway 127 and College Station Road

Directions: To view the original location of the Sequatchie College, follow 27-N from Chattanooga to TN 111-N. Travel 17 miles to Hwy 127/William Taft Hwy. Travel approximately 9.8 miles on 127 to College Station. Proceed west on College Station Road for 0.3 miles. Turn right onto Old Hwy 28 for approximately one mile. A large stone dedicated to the Sequatchie College is located on the left near the intersection of Old Hwy 28 and Herman Smith Road.

Sequatchie College was established c. 1858, but the coming of the war in 1861 closed the school for the duration of the conflict. Gerry Rodgers reopened the school in 1865 and invited both Confederate and Federal veterans from the region to attend. Imagine the sight, in the Fall of 1865, of army veterans taking courses together, when just months earlier they were trying to kill each other.
