Cumberland Presbyterian Church
8267 North Lee Highway
Charleston , TN
423-336-5004

Like many churches in the region, Charleston Cumberland Presbyterian Church was used as a hospital by Union and Confederate troops during the Civil War. Markings on the windows still exist as relics of the wartime era. It is said that the marks were caused by Union horses tied-up directly outside the church walls. The parish cemetery contains the remains of both Union and Confederate soldiers. Though the congregation now meets in a modern sanctuary, the original 1850 structure still stands, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
