The Pelham Church of Christ was organized in 1896 when an acre of land was purchased from the Patton family for $75, and was designated as the site for the local Church of Christ . Soon after the purchase John B. Thomas began construction on the church building. Like so many rural churches, the Pelham Church of Christ suffered significant loss in membership during the Great Depression, due in large part to the trend of young people moving away from ancestral home places in search of gainful employment. As the elderly membership of the parishes died-off, many of the congregations became extinct. Such was the case at Pelham until 1939 when religious activity was revived in the area under a tent by the evangelist Adolphus Rollins. Soon after, the Rev. A.C. Willis took the helm of the congregation and helped to revive it into a viable and vibrant church.
