LOCATION:
U.S. Hwy 41

The company was founded in 1873 by a Swiss Colony farmer in Tennessee. John Baggenstoss, President, bought the company in 1993 with the intention to save the old company from extinction and start a woodworking shop. He never dreamed that there were still many devoted scythe users still around. He decided to still make the snaths for the scythe. The snaths are made of select clear hickory. The snath is then steamed, bent and curled on racks. Then they are rough sanded and fitted with the nibs. The blades are custom made by an Austrian company which has forged scythes since the year 1540 using our 120 year patterns.
Even though the scythe is a very old style tool, it is still used very effectively in cutting grass or brush. The scythe can be bought through mail order. If you would like to request a catalog,, please feel free to call or send us a fax (it is the same number for either/931-529-5042). Or email us at marugg@blomand.net.
