Jess Betschart's wood carving studio is a rustic cabin tucked away among the trees on the side of Monteagle Mountain. In this hand-crafted workshop, Jess meticulously creates each piece of art using the finest woods collected and dried from the Southern hardwood forests.
Powerful influences on his art definitely can be seen from his early travels across the U.S. which extended into the Arctic. These early associations with the many different cultures have had deep and profound impact upon his present work.
His self-taught, God-given talent is given creative expression in a variety of subject matter, ranging from turned and carved bowls to portraits to fantasy and imaginary figures. His popular, stylized creches warm many hearts during the festive holiday seasons.
With his work now firmly established in the South, Betschart's customers and collectors range across the United States and into Canada and into many European and Asian countries.
Directions: Located approximately one mile down Highway 41 North, SCULPTURE IN WOOD is a five minute drive from Exit 134 on Interstate 24.
