Fire on the Mountain Bluegrass Festival
South Pittsburg Mountain, TN

Fire on the Mountain Bluegrass Festival in South Pittsburg Mountain, TN. Takes place in Mid- September. It has grown from a one-day to a three-day event, and draws most of the local bands and a few regional old-time and bluegrass bands.

The performance seating is pleasent, in a grove of trees with some covered seats. There is room to camp in tents and motor homes. The South Pittsburg Mountain Volunteer Fire Department sponsors the concession stand where local cooks provide home made cakes, breads, and 'fried pies' as well as hot dogs and burgers. The festival is a fund raiser for the South Pittsburg Mountain Volunteer Fire District, but admission is very reasonable, typically $5 for adults.

To support the fire hall, consider buying 2 tickets per person!. The festival is the major fund raiser for the Volunteer Fire Hall. Refreshments --including cakes, pies, brownies, and pickles -- are homemade by the Fire Hall Auxiliary and available for sale.

The jam sessions go all night in and near the campers. Some of the regions best pickers come to play on stage, and jam all night for enjoyment.

The festival is located on Highway 156, west (uphill) from the town of South Pittsburg, TN, on the top of the South Cumberland plateau in the mountain community of South Pittsburg Mountain.

Directions: From I-24, go to South Pittsburg on Highway 72, turn right (West) onto Highway 156 and travel up the steep, curving road to the top. Watch for a fire station sign and turn left into the entrance. From Monteagle, take Highway 156 east, and travel about 15 miles on the plateau to the community of TN South Pittsburg Mountain, then turn right at the Fire Hall.

Suitable for large groups.
Plenty of parking available at the fire hall.
Shaded parking for campers.
