Mountain Goat Radio Show
Monteagle, TN

You can be in the live audience of this Radio Theater effort produced by the South Cumberland Cultural Society, an amateur community theater group in Monteagle, TN. The Radio show, The Mountain Goat, modeled after The Prairie Home Companion, is taped on the second Sunday of the month in the Fall, Winter and Spring from 3pm-5pm central time and aired on the following Saturday (following post-production editing) on AM 1150 WEPG 'The River.' Comprised of skits written by local writers, and performed by community actors, the show also includes guest bands or musicians. Guests have included a hammered dulcimer player, an a capella traditional mountain singer, Carol Ponder; the Chattanooga old time string band, Down Yonder featuring the late frailing banjo player, Don Sarrell and harmonica player, Rufus Elliott; local old time band Fiery Gizzard String Band and 83 year old fiddler from Whitwell, Clint Kilgore.

Named for the small-gauge railroad that used to cross the plateau, The Mountain Goat radio show features plays and skits that highlight the history of the South Cumberland Plateau, in particular the mining, industrial development, rural character, and shady characters of the past. Sound effects accompany the radio plays, performed by members of the South Cumberland Cultural Society Radio Theater. Local authors read from their work.

Admission to the taping is free, and participation is welcome. The radio show taping is live, and takes place at the Bluewater Lodge in Monteagle, TN. The Lodge is to the south of I-24 in Monteagle, on Highway 41 about 1 mile southwest of the freeway.

Suitable for large groups.
Admission to the taping is free.
