Fredonia Mountain, TN
Off the beaten track, Fredonia Mountain Jamboree draws audience members from the farming and logging community of Fredonia, the rural residents of the South Cumberland plateau, the valley towns of Dunlap and Pikeville, and--two ridges over--Chattanooga players.
This small community opry is held at the Fredonia Community Center, Fredonia Mountain, TN. It takes place each Thursday evening, from 7pm-11pm (CST) and features bluegrass, country, and old time music.
Very casual, the performances often consist of musicians who usually play with others but who have warmed up together with a few songs. Most nights you will hear bluegrass, but some performers throw in some folk and country music.
On occasion, the regulars put on a mountain Hee Haw show, spoofing the 60's TV show that ribbed the Hillbilly Way Of Life. The local mountain audience is packed and has a great time with the music and jokes of their friends and neighbors.
Suitable for large groups.
Bus parking available, but call ahead for driving directions up the Mountain.
Some curves and corners may not be easy bus access.
Admission is free but each performance they pass the hat for donations.
Door prizes are offered.
Directions: From Dunlap, TN, take Fredonia Mountain Road up the Cumberland Plateau (West) to the top, then travel an additional 9 miles.
