"On the Road Again" Party

Reopening of Hwy 64

What: The public is invited to attend a celebration to mark the reopening of Highway 64 after five months of work to clear and stabilize the road following the massive rockslide of November 10, 2009. Live music by Steel String Session, free food and drinks, and souvenir shirts will be sold.

Polk County is divided by the Cherokee National Forest, and Highway 64 is the only direct route connecting the county. Many citizens work and go to school in Cleveland, Athens and as far away as Chattanooga. The road closure turned a 30 minute drive into a detour of well over an hour and a half.

Who: Interested parties and members of the media are invited to attend the party.

When /Where: Friday, April 16, 2010 from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Ocoee Whitewater Center

Other info: This event is organized by the Polk County Chamber of Commerce. Sponsors  include Mayfield Dairy Farms, Smith Management dba McDonald's, I-Care EMS, ETC, Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association, Cherokee National Forest, Benton IGA, Ocoee River Outfitters Association, Cherokee Rafting, Ocoee River Inn and Chevron, Polk County News, Whitewater Cafe at the Ocoee Whitewater Center, Bob Watts Financial Services and Thompson Gas Company.
