This festival surrounds many different events in Chattanooga. The festival is split into different sections that focus on different African-American who made contributions to the arts community.
August Wilson Playmakers Festival:
- June 10 – Opening Night of “Joe Turner’s Come & Gone”
- June 12 – Performance of “Joe Turner’s Come & Gone” Followed by a Lecture
- June 16 – Performance of “Peeing in a Soda Bottle” Followed by a Discussion
Elizabeth Catlett Visual Arts Exhibit:
- June 12 – Sip, Paint & Spit: Poetry Meets Paint
James Baldwin Festival of Words:
- June 11 – Writer’s Workshop
- June 11 – Literary Lounge
- June 17 – An Intimate Evening with Spoken Word Artist Obbie West

- June 25 – Shades of Poetry Showcase featuring Young Black Voices-A Tribute to James Baldwin
